Terms of Service

Effective Date: September 2, 2026 • Last Updated: September 2, 2026

Welcome to ShortLink. These Terms of Service (“Terms”, “Agreement”) constitute a legally binding agreement between you (“User”, “you”) and ShortLink (“we”, “us”, “our”) governing your access to and use of our URL shortening platform, custom alias generation, QR code utilities, redirection engine, and related analytics services (collectively, the “Service”).

By accessing our website, shortening any URL, scanning or generating QR codes, or clicking on any link shortened through our platform, you acknowledge that you have read, understood, and agreed to be bound by these Terms and our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree to these Terms, you must immediately cease using the Service.

1. Description of the Service

ShortLink provides free web-based utilities enabling users to convert standard Uniform Resource Locators (URLs) into shortened alphanumeric hyperlinks, customize link aliases, generate downloadable QR codes, view anonymized click metrics, and deliver fast, search-engine-friendly HTTP 308 permanent redirects to destination web addresses.

2. Acceptable Use Policy (AUP)

You agree to use ShortLink strictly for legitimate, lawful purposes. You represent and warrant that any URL submitted to our Service does not violate any applicable local, national, or international laws or regulations.

Strictly Prohibited Activities:

  • Phishing & Fraud: Creating links that disguise fraudulent, deceptive, or social engineering destination pages designed to harvest credentials, banking details, or sensitive personal data.
  • Malware & Exploits: Linking to any executable file, script, virus, trojan horse, ransomware, spyware, or malicious code intended to compromise user devices.
  • Spam & Abuse: Distributing unsolicited bulk messaging, commercial spam, forum spam, link injection networks, or search engine manipulation schemes.
  • Harmful & Illegal Content: Linking to Child Sexual Abuse Material (CSAM), non-consensual intimate imagery, violent extremism, terrorism, hate speech, or harassment.
  • Intellectual Property Infringement: Shortening links that facilitate unauthorized distribution of copyrighted material, pirated digital media, or counterfeit goods.
  • Network Attacks & Infrastructure Exploitation: Submitting private IP ranges (RFC 1918), localhost addresses (127.0.0.1), loopback schemes, non-HTTP URIs (javascript:, data:, file:), or attempting to overwhelm or bypass rate limiting via automated flooding scripts.

3. Link Removal, Moderation & Termination Rights

ShortLink operates an active trust & safety program. We reserve the unrestricted right, in our sole discretion and without prior notice or liability, to:

  • Inspect, evaluate, and scan destination URLs against global threat intelligence feeds.
  • Disable, deactivate, redirect, quarantine, or permanently delete any short URL, custom alias, or IP address that violates these Terms or is suspected of malicious activity.
  • Report unlawful links and relevant diagnostic logs to law enforcement authorities or regulatory agencies.
  • Throttle, rate-limit, or ban any user agent or IP address engaging in automated platform abuse.

4. Third-Party Links & Content Disclaimer

ShortLink serves strictly as a technical redirection intermediary. We do not operate, control, endorse, monitor, or assume any legal liability for the content, safety, privacy policies, products, or practices of external destination websites reached through our links. Users who click on shortened links do so entirely at their own discretion and risk.

5. Intellectual Property

Our Platform: All software, designs, text, graphics, logos, brand marks, and underlying code comprising ShortLink are the exclusive intellectual property of ShortLink and are protected by applicable intellectual property and copyright laws.

Your Content: You retain ownership of the original web content at your destination URLs. By submitting a URL to our Service, you grant ShortLink a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to store, route, and transmit the URL solely to provide the redirection and analytics functionality.

6. Advertising & Commercial Terms

The Service is supported by digital advertising. You agree not to manipulate, click-farm, artificially inflate, or interfere with advertisements displayed on ShortLink. We reserve the right to alter the layout, placement, and provider of advertising at any time.

7. Disclaimer of Warranties (“As-Is”)

THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED ON AN “AS IS” AND “AS AVAILABLE” BASIS WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EITHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, UPTIME, SPEED, ACCURACY, TITLE, OR NON-INFRINGEMENT. WE DO NOT GUARANTEE THAT SHORT LINKS WILL REMAIN ACCESSIBLE WITHOUT INTERRUPTION, ERROR-FREE, OR UNALTERED OVER TIME.

8. Limitation of Liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, IN NO EVENT SHALL SHORTLINK, ITS DIRECTORS, EMPLOYEES, PARTNERS, OR LICENSORS BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO LOSS OF PROFITS, DATA, USE, GOODWILL, OR BUSINESS REPUTATION, ARISING OUT OF OR IN CONNECTION WITH YOUR USE OR INABILITY TO USE THE SERVICE OR ANY CONTENT AT DESTINATION WEBSITES.

9. Indemnification

You agree to defend, indemnify, and hold harmless ShortLink and its affiliates, officers, agents, and employees from and against any claims, liabilities, damages, losses, costs, or expenses (including reasonable attorneys’ fees) arising out of or related to your violation of these Terms or your creation/distribution of any unlawful or abusive shortened link.
